TPS designations extended for certain nations

On Behalf of | Jun 28, 2023

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently announced changes to its Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designations. This will affect immigrants from Nicaragua, Nepal, Honduras, and El Salvador who live in New Jersey or anywhere else in the country. The change provides an extension of 18 months.

Nicaragua

The DHS has extended the TPS designation of Nicaraguan citizens for a period of 18 months. This will last from January 6, 2024, to July 5, 2025. The extension for immigration status for Nicaraguans will allow 4,000 refugees to keep their TPS status provided they continue to meet eligibility requirements.

All current immigrants who desire this extension must re-register during a 60-day period. This will last from Nov. 6, 2023, through Jan. 5, 2024.

Nepal

DHS will extend the designation for Nepalese immigrants for 18 months. This is set to last between December 25, 2023, to June 24, 2025. The extension will permit 14,5000 Nepalese beneficiaries to re-register to retain their TPS status.

This offer is contingent upon their retaining their eligibility to continue with this process. The time to re-register is set for October 24, 2023, to December 23, 2023.

Honduras

DHS will extend the designation for Honduran immigrants for 18 months. This extension will last from January 6, 2024, through July 5, 2025. The extension will permit 76,000 current beneficiaries to re-register to retain their TPS designation.

This permission will be based on their ability to meet basic eligibility requirements. The period to re-register to retain these benefits is set to last for 60 days between Nov. 6, 2023, and Jan. 5, 2024.

El Salvador

DHS will extend the TPS designation for El Salvador for 18 months. This will last from September 10, 2024 to March 9, 2025. The extension will permit 239,000 TPS holders to re-register to retain their designation.

This offer is contingent upon them retaining their eligibility. The time to re-register will run between July 12, 2023 and Sept. 10, 2023. Anyone seeking more information can research this matter at the official DHS website.
